Toronto Events

As a global city, Toronto is a place that offers plenty of static attractions that are on hand all year round for the 4 million or so people who travel to the city from all over the world each year. However, in addition to the main sights such as the CN tower and Niagara Falls that people come to the city in order to see, there are certain times throughout the year when you get something a little extra special – when your visit coincides with one of the highlights of the Toronto Events calendar, you can be sure that your visit to the city will offer you a little bit more to enjoy, and if you are particularly keen to see a special event during your stay, planning your visit to coincide with some particular event is a great idea that will really improve your experience of Toronto.

Aside from New Years Day, Canada Day, and Christmas, one of the main highlights of the Toronto events calendar is the celebration of the founding of the city on August 27th. You will see parades through the streets that are carried out by many of the school children and local groups, and there are usually special displays on at The Rogers Center and at the Toronto Zoo to celebrate the founding of the city.

Throughout the year, you will see parts of Toronto being used as the back drop for movies. This is because the city resembles New York, and offers much more straightforward opportunities for movie studios to work in the city than its rival to the south. In order to capitalize on its position as one of the most important movie making cities in the world, Toronto celebrates an annual summer film festival that attracts many people from Hollywood and other film making areas for premieres and lectures on the process of cinema.

Over the last few years, the Toronto Film Festival has coincided with the city in summer event, which offers a range of great additions to the city including an urban beach, which is just the place to relax and unwind for a few hours during the hottest part of the day, and an observation wheel where you can see the whole of the city.

Of course, New Year is a particularly great time to visit the city, and there are a number of Toronto events scheduled to help you enjoy the celebrations including a stunning fireworks display along the harbor front where the highlight is the launch of many rockets from the CN tower that paint the sky with color.
